German captions in short

Crayo transcribes German speech and adds animated captions to short clips from podcasts, streams and interviews. It is for clippers and editors in Germany, Austria and Switzerland who post captioned vertical clips to TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

German-speaking Europe is the largest podcast market in Europe, with interview, comedy and business podcasts regularly running two hours, and German streamers draw some of the biggest Twitch audiences outside the English-speaking world. Clips from those shows live on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, where captions are expected on every cut.

German is written in the Latin alphabet with umlauts and the ß, and it is famous for compound nouns that can run past twenty letters. Transcription handles standard German well; Austrian and Swiss speech are transcribed as German too, though Swiss German dialect is far from the written standard and will need more edits in the caption list. Crayo transcribes the speech as German when selected.

A practical tip: very long compounds cannot be split across lines, so use a caption style that shows one to three words at a time rather than full sentences, and preview clips that contain long nouns to make sure they fit inside the phone safe area at your chosen text size.
